Year 7 Transition to Secondary School September 2021

Year 6 transition information

We’re delighted to welcome you to St Joseph’s College as part our new year 7.

My name is Ms Roberts and I’m lucky enough to be the headteacher at St Joseph’s. It really is the best job in the world – and one of the things I most enjoy is seeing our new Y7s each year and helping them to see how they can help to make this wonderful school even more amazing. I am a drama and English teacher and I love to teach Y7 because I really want to get to know everyone as soon as you arrive.

Now we have spoken to your primary teachers about you, we’re very excited that you’re going to be joining us in September. You are lucky enough to be looked after by Mrs Shorey, as head of Y7 and Mrs Gilding is the Assistant Headteacher in charge of KS3 so she will be with you for all the first three years of your St Joseph’s College journey.

As you know, this has been a time unlike anything that has happened in our lifetime; we really are living through history. You may have missed a lot of school lately, but your teachers say that you are just as up to date as any other Y6 classes and also that have learned amazing new skills and shown great resilience – exactly the qualities that will help you to flourish here at St Joseph’s.

We know that you might be feeling especially nervous about the transition into year 7. Please don’t worry. You have a fantastic opportunity to come to our Summer School so that by the time term starts, everyone will know each other much better.

At Summer School you will have the whole site to yourselves for three days at the start of the holidays and two days at just before term starts. You can get to know the building, meet some of our lovely staff and even try out the wonderful food prepared by Ann from our kitchen. We really hope that you are able to come along. I am very sure that this and the remote activities that we’ve got planned for your transition will help put you at ease and get you feeling as excited as we are about your new school.

We are here for you every step of the way during your transition into year 7. If your parents have any concerns or questions, please tell them to let us know by emailing SJCollege@stjosephsmail.com and Mrs Shorey will be happy to help you.

We look forward to connecting with you over the next few weeks as we prepare to kick off a fantastic year in September.

With very best wishes,

Melissa Roberts
